Woman Uses Laughing Emoji To Announce Death of Her Step Mum on WhatsApp Status

A Nigerian woman has set the internet talking about her weird way of announcing the death of her stepmother. The excited lady took to her WhatsApp status and dropped the sad news, however, her use of emoji left many in shock.

According to her son, alias @big_western_ on TikTok, his mom wanted to add in a crying emoji to her post to show sorrow. She had mistakenly used the laughing emoji-where the face is with tears of joy-instead of the crying emoji that shows a sad face with tears. This mix-up was very confusing to those who saw her status, because the emoji laughing gave an impression of being amused, not sorrowful.

Captioned “Your mom misplaced laughing emoji for the crying emoji,” the TikTok video went viral in no time. In it, the son explains that when he brought this to his mom’s attention, she was apparently taken aback. She explained that she had thought both emojis were practically the same since they were both tears, not knowing the huge difference in their meanings.

The misunderstanding brought lots of laughter and love from the netizens, wherein many comments said that people usually mistake one for another. She unknowingly sent a wrong emotion-the woman wanted to express anxiety-which in fact turned out to be love. However, it did show at times how certain people face problems in moving along with digital communication, especially when there are similar-looking symbols. Apart from the mistake, her post has been one light-hearted topic of discussion on social media.
