Nigeria’s standout forward, Victor Osimhen, has shared his journey of overcoming a stomach ailment to contribute to the Super Eagles’ advancement to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final. Despite battling abdominal discomfort just days before the crucial semi-final clash against South Africa, Osimhen played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s victory, as reported by The Cable.
Initially unsure of his ability to participate, the 25-year-old remained sidelined in Abidjan while the team traveled to Bouaké for the match. However, on the eve of the game, he was declared fit and made the journey to join his teammates by bus.
Reflecting on his ordeal in an Instagram Live video, Osimhen recounted waking up in agony, prompting a trip to the hospital where he received treatment to prepare him for the match. He credited the medical team for their efforts in getting him ready in time.
Despite the challenges, Osimhen remained determined to represent his country and informed coach Peseiro of his readiness to play. He expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by everyone involved in the team.
In the semi-final match against South Africa, Osimhen not only started but also won the penalty that led to Nigeria taking the lead in the 65th minute. His resilience and dedication were instrumental in the team’s success.
