Tobi Amusan Reacts After Reaching Women’s 100m Hurdles Semifinal

Africa made an explosive start at the Paris 2024 Olympics Tobi Amusan winning her first race in the women’s 100 metres hurdles. The Nigeria sprinter won her quarter-final heat ahead of America’s Aleysha Johnson and Jamaica’s Janeek Brown on Day 7. The world record holder Amusan timed 12.48 seconds to secure her place in the semifinal on Friday and possibly will compete for a final spot lined up for Saturday, penultimate day of competition at games village here ahead of Tokyo Olympic Games proper action set to hold from July 23rd-August 8th this year also in Japan coast city.

After her victory, she showed more optimism in a Making of Champions interview. Allahu akbar, my third Olympics. I want to come out here and murder each round. I think I did alright, and my coach is going to be mad as per usual (laughs), ’cause he’s like nagging me before every race ‘run through the line’ but I just felt like this was round three so let’s see where you’re at easing off a little bit in”, she explained.

With the tag of world record holder, Amusan believes: “I don’t feel that pressure – I have to (go) out there and act like an underdog. She also inevitably expressed anticipation at going to her third Olympics, believing that this round might be for the big win. “First time I came as an Olympian, I was like ’18/19.’Second time, yeah probably a bit experienced so didn’t hit on to that podium but this is my season,” she said.

Optimistically, Amusan is setting her mind on a successful 2024 Olympic in Paris.
