Tears as Oba Adekunle Aromolaran Dies, Osun Govt Releases Official Statement

The Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, Oba Gabriel Adekunle Aromolaran III, is dead. He was aged 87 years. Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state confirmed his demise in an official statement on Thursday, September 12. Oba Aromolaran died Wednesday, September 11.

Governor Adeleke sent “my heartfelt condolences” to the good people of Ijeshaland and Osun state over the passage of the monarch, who made a great mark when alive. He described Oba Aromolaran in his tribute as a “father figure, a pillar of support, and a teacher” who had left an indelible mark on his unwavering commitment to the development of Ijeshaland and Osun state.

Governor Adeleke extolled the virtues of the departed monarch, who, he said, was committed to the welfare and development of his people. He described the late Oba Aromolaran as “known for boldness, candour, elegance, and literary energy” that typified his eventful reign as the Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland. His influence reached beyond his immediate community, as he was a strong advocate for progress and good governance across Osun state.

The governor, while mourning the demise of the monarch, recalled with nostalgia, the “unwavering support” of the Oba for his administration and the last time they met during the flag-off of the dualisation of Brewery-Palace Road in Ilesa. He is grateful that Oba Aromolaran had the chance to see this new phase of development in Ijeshaland before he passed on.

This was contained in a statement signed by Governor Adeleke, saying: “Kabiyesi was a deeply selfless father, who took no prisoners when it came to matters of development and the wellbeing of the people. He was a friend of good governance, no matter the colour or race. The last time I was with him was at the flag-off of the dualisation of Brewery-Palace Road. I am glad our late erudite scholar witnessed a new phase of development for Ijeshaland.”

The government of Osun, in a statement, reacted to the demise of Oba Aromolaran with profound sadness, stating that his death marked the end of an era for the people of Ijeshaland and Osun state as a whole. His running decade-long reign was engaging in tireless community-lifting and social progress. Great respect was accorded to him by his people through his wisdom, leadership qualities, and commitment to the preservation of culture.

While people in Ijeshaland and beyond are still mourning the exit of Oba Aromolaran, the Osun government has called for prayers for his family and the entire community, hoping his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
