Paris 2024: Kalu Shines As Nigeria’s D’Tigress Show Bravery in Loss to Host Nation France

The Nigerian Women’s national basketball team, the D’Tigress were defeated in their second game of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Following a surprise victory over third-ranked Australia Opals by a score of 75-62 in their first group game, the Nigerian side was expected to give France a good run for their money.

Nevertheless, the French proved to be too strong an opponent for D’Tigress who had a difficult start. Her superb shooting prowess made Ezinne Kalu outstanding as she garnered 18 points for Afrobasket champions. The Nigerians are playing their second straight Olympics (Tokyo 2020) and aimed at posting back-to-back wins but fell short.

France, ranked seventh, showcased some great shooting skills and exploited Nigeria’s difficulties with three-pointers. The host nation took advantage of home ground and fans’ support. Although D’Tigress managed to keep up during the first quarter, they suffered a massive breakdown in the second half resulting in an easy win for France at 75-54
