At the tender age of 12, tragedy struck for Omah Lay, losing his father, fondly known as “Boy Alone.” Left to take care of his family, he made a bold decision at just 13 years old, leaving home and venturing into the illegal refinery business in Nigeria’s Delta region. However, this path cost him dearly, including the loss of many friends. Seeking a better life, he transitioned to working as a laundering man by the age of 16.
Despite the challenges, Omah Lay harbored a passion for music and aspired to become a rapper. To hone his skills, he sought guidance from Dr. Roy, a gospel music producer. However, Dr. Roy insisted on teaching only gospel music production, forcing Omah Lay to abandon his dreams of rapping.
Disheartened but determined, Omah Lay persevered, serving Dr. Roy for over a year and a half. However, his role was limited to menial tasks, with no opportunity to learn music production. Undeterred, he turned to YouTube, spending countless nights absorbing tutorials and honing his craft.
Despite his efforts, Omah Lay’s relationship with Dr. Roy soured, leading to his expulsion from the studio. Undeterred, he continued his musical journey, relying on his self-taught skills and relentless determination to pursue his dreams in the face of adversity.
