Nigerian Woman in Germany Downloads Movie, Husband Settles €1200 Fine

A Nigerian woman residing in Germany shared her experience of inadvertently downloading a movie from the internet, unaware of the legal ramifications. Priceless Munachimso disclosed that she used her husband’s phone for the download.

Shortly after, her husband was contacted and fined €1200 (over N1.5 million). Taking to TikTok, Munachimso cautioned against downloading copyrighted material in Germany, citing her own costly lesson.

She emphasized the legal consequences, stating, “Downloading movies, games, books, and music in Germany is against the law. Just avoid torrent downloads.” Legit.ng corroborated her story, finding evidence of such laws.

According to sources like All About Berlin and Settle in Berlin, German regulations prohibit file-sharing activities involving copyrighted content. Law firms monitor torrent downloads, tracing IP addresses to issue fines ranging from €500 to €1,500 and may request personal information from internet providers.
