Nigerian Senator Abruptly Ends Live Interview During Budget Inquiry, Citing ‘No Interest in Drama’

Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe, representing Cross River North in the National Assembly, caused a commotion on national television when he abruptly terminated a live interview after being questioned about a contentious budget issue. The senator evidently chose to cut the interview short rather than risk facing suspension, similar to another senator embroiled in a budget controversy.

Appearing virtually on Arise News Channel’s Breakfast show, Senator Jarigbe faced inquiries regarding the highly-publicized 2024 Budget. Surprisingly, the senator claimed to be unaware of the budget details, as reported by Leadership.

When pressed on why he lacked knowledge of the country’s financial plans, the lawmaker shifted blame, questioning the newsroom’s own awareness. The anchor promptly reminded him of his duty as an elected official. Despite this, the senator remained firm, expressing frustration with the emphasis on budget matters instead of addressing his constituents’ needs.

In his response, he exclaimed, “What’s all this talk about the budget? I want to discuss my thanksgiving and representation to my people. You’re fixated on the budget, I’ll leave. You want me to say something that will land me in trouble, you should let me serve my people quietly.”
