On Tuesday morning, April 9, 2024, the Nigerian government officially declared Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to mark the 2024 Eid-el-Fitr celebration. The announcement came through a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior, signed by Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, Permanent Secretary of the department.
The statement highlighted the approval of the extra holiday by the federal government and conveyed the congratulations of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, to the Muslim ummah for the successful completion of Ramadan. It also emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria.
With this update, the Eid-el-Fitr holiday in Nigeria for 2024 spans three days, including Tuesday, April 9; Wednesday, April 10; and the newly added Thursday, April 11.
