Man Goes for Lecturing Job Interview, Rejects Appointment After Discovering Salary is N97,000

On the day of the interview, Ugwu arrived at the office of the registrar and the interview commenced shortly after. According to him, the interview process was straightforward, consisting of a few questions before swiftly moving on to the topic of salary.

During the discussion, Ugwu asked about the salary structure for the position of Assistant Lecturer I. The interviewer, after a moment of hesitation, informed him that the salary was N97,000 per month. Additionally, it was mentioned that the salary structure would be reviewed and potentially increased within six months. Despite this assurance, Ugwu was taken aback and requested 24 hours to consider the offer before making a decision.

Upon returning home, Ugwu conducted a thorough financial analysis. He calculated that his monthly transportation costs to and from the job location would amount to approximately N70,000. This left him with only N27,000 to cover all other expenses, which he found untenable. Realizing that the salary was insufficient to meet his basic needs and responsibilities, he decided to reject the job offer.
