In a generous move, the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has bestowed a gift of N200,000 to each Corps Member from Batch B Stream One who has been assigned to serve in the state. This financial bonus aims to ensure a comfortable stay for these young volunteers in the state.
During the inauguration of the 2024 NYSC Orientation Course for Batch B, Stream One at the temporary NYSC camp located in Paiko, Governor Bago made this announcement. His statement was also shared through the state’s official X account, @NigerStateNG, where it was noted that the initiative reflects the state’s commitment to making the NYSC experience in Niger State as rewarding as possible.
In addition to the cash bonus, the Governor’s generous package included 20 cows and a trailer load of rice, ensuring that the corps members have sufficient food supplies during their orientation course. This gesture not only caters to the immediate needs of the NYSC participants but also sets a tone of hospitality and appreciation for their service to the community.
Moreover, Governor Bago has outlined further plans to integrate the Corps Members into the state’s framework more seamlessly, particularly those in the medical field. He promised automatic employment for these individuals upon completion of their service year, which could significantly enhance medical services in the region.
The Governor also disclosed a substantial investment in the NYSC infrastructure within the state. A commitment of N5 billion is set for the construction of a new Permanent Orientation Camp. This development is aimed at providing more appropriate and comfortable accommodation for future corps members during their orientation period.
Until the completion of the new facilities, the Governor has ensured that immediate improvements will be made to the existing temporary camp. These enhancements include the construction of additional toilets and the installation of five new boreholes to improve water supply, addressing some of the critical needs of the camp facilities.
Governor Bago’s actions resonate with the objectives of the NYSC scheme, which focuses on national unity and fostering a spirit of community service among Nigerian youths. By improving living conditions and ensuring the well-being of corps members, the state is setting a commendable precedent for others to follow.
This initiative has been well-received by the corps members and the wider community, reflecting positively on the administration’s focus on youth empowerment and community development. Special Adviser on Digital Communications to Governor Bago, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, further highlighted this event by sharing a video of the corps members receiving their bonuses, which garnered significant attention and praise on social media.
Governor Bago’s comprehensive approach not only enhances the immediate experience of the NYSC members but also aligns with long-term benefits for both the individuals and the community at large. This strategic investment in human capital demonstrates a forward-thinking leadership style, aiming to nurture a robust foundation for the state’s future.
