Jose Peseiro Potentially Returning as Super Eagles Coach, Nigeria Shows Interest

Jose Peseiro, the Portuguese football tactician and former assistant coach at Real Madrid, is in talks for a possible return as the head coach of Nigeria’s national team, the Super Eagles. Following the end of his previous tenure in March after his contract expired, Peseiro’s leadership had previously propelled the Super Eagles to a runner-up finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Recent developments reported by Afrik-Foot on Tuesday, July 9, suggest that Gerald Baloyi of Vodia Sports International Management has confirmed ongoing negotiations for Peseiro’s comeback. Although Peseiro was also offered to South African club Sundowns, the Nigerian national teams have expressed a keen interest in having him lead again, especially with the upcoming AFCON qualifying games beginning in September. This news comes after the sudden resignation of Finidi George, who briefly held the coaching position after Peseiro’s departure, as reported by Legit.ng. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) is actively seeking to fill the coaching role to ensure a strong campaign in the qualifiers.
