Jens Ole Bach Hansen, Denmark’s newly appointed ambassador to Nigeria, has officially declared his arrival and readiness to interact with Nigerians. He tweeted that he was looking forward to starting work and getting to know the country better. Hansen concluded by requesting Nigerians to follow him as he represents Denmark through instagram.
“Hallo #Nigeria. I am Jens Ole Bach Hansen, the new proud and honored ambassador-designate of #Denmark in this great important interesting country cannot wait for starting and knowing much more about it better. Catch me working here #DenmarkNigeria,” wrote Hansen.
The same could not be said for Philip Okpala who posted a humorous response on the implications of “unique diplomacy”.
In response to this news, many Nigerians took to the comments section of Twitter offering their advice or warmly welcoming him. Philip Okpala joked by educating Hansen on diplomatic customs of Nigeria stating, “Be prepared for unique diplomacy: In Nigeria, it can involve more than just discussions over coffee. Sometimes, it’s ‘palm wine’, and other times it’s a handshake that feels suspiciously heavy. Don’t worry—if the handshake lingers too long, just smile and say, ‘I’ll take that under advisement.’ It works every time!”
Erioluwa opined that Hansen should not only engage in diplomacy but also suggest investing in Nigeria. Erioluwa said, “I hope you will not just be a diplomat between our two great nations, you must also have an eagle eye to identify investment opportunities that can drive both our countries to prosperity. I am looking forward to the Danish businesses that are likely to come and invest here.”
“Just tell me when,” he replied.
@greatchemical pushed Hansen to discover Lagos and its Yoruba culture; Femi Yekinni simply wished him a good stay in his country.
Upon arrival, Nigerians are seen trying to build strong ties with Denmark through humor, cultural dos and don’ts as well as investment advice.
