Nigerian-born, South African model Chidimma Onwe Adetshina recently won the Miss Universe Nigeria title-a victory that marks a high achievement in her arduous journey toward the Miss Universe World competition. En route to success, Chidimma’s path was not particularly an easy one, especially when it came to overcoming life in South Africa. She had first joined the Miss Universe South Africa contest and then had to withdraw under very distressing circumstances before being invited to take part in the Nigerian version of the pageant.
Her win in Nigeria was not without its share of controversies, as many people thought she was over-indulged and had not been chosen from, say, some hard competition. Whatever the case might be, a viral video just surfaced of Chidimma addressing journalists about some of the struggles she had to face. She said those challenges have made her personality resilient and character strong.
Chidimma seized that moment, sending out an appreciation to South Africa for the challenges she had to go through but told how much stronger and wiser she grew from those experiences. She continues thankful for all good things coming her way despite persecutions.
Someday, Chidimma wants to represent Nigeria on the Miss Universe World crown. For her, it would have been a form of giving back to the country, having been supportive and encouraging to her through some of the most traumatic moments of her life. It is a story of resilience and determination-deriving from her Firm Will, as she puts it, never to give up.
