Enugu Rangers Clinch 2023/2024 NPFL Championship

Rangers International Football Club of Enugu has triumphed in the 2023/2024 Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL), securing the championship for a record eighth time. The club’s victory was sealed with a convincing 2-0 win against Bendel Insurance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, confirming their dominance in the league on Sunday, June 16.

This significant achievement was highlighted on the club’s X social media platform (formerly Twitter) under their handle @Rangers_Intl. The victory was particularly sweet as it came after their primary competitors, Remo Stars of Ijebu Ode and Enyimba of Aba, faced defeats against Sunshine Stars and Sporting Lagos, respectively, with scores of 2-1 in both matches. These results left Rangers unassailable at the top of the league table, with a total of 67 points, four points clear of the second-placed team, thus ensuring their championship status with one match still remaining in the season.

The match itself showcased Rangers’ tactical prowess and determination. Kenechukwu Agu opened the scoring for Rangers with a perfectly executed free-kick in the 33rd minute, setting the tone for the match. The team maintained this lead into the half-time break. In the second half, Chidiebere Nwobodo doubled their advantage with a goal at the 65th-minute mark, following a precise long pass from Japhet Opobo, cementing their lead and effectively securing the championship title.
