Dangote Makes Over N12bn in Hours, Secures New Position in World’s Billionaire List

A significant bounce has been made by Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, in the global billionaire rankings as he experienced an extraordinary financial boost. On August 14, 2024, Dangote’s net worth rose by more than $8.04m (roughly N12.72bn) within a few hours. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, this increase brought his wealth up to $13.9bn making him the world’s 141st wealthiest person.

Dangote has overtaken South African billionaire Johann Rupert who had recently surpassed him as Africa’s richest man. Currently at $13.2bn in net worth, Rupert is ranked number 156 in terms of global wealth—15 positions behind Dangote.

The most part of Dangote’s bet is connected with his massive 86% ownership of Dangote Cement that is also publicly traded company. His fortune is also supported by holdings in Nascon Allied Industries and United Bank for Africa through Dangote Industries just like those in Dangote Sugar too. This conglomerate also deals with food manufacturing, oil as well as fertilizers amongst other sectors.
