In a recent development reported by Premium Times, Chris Maiyaki, the acting executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), clarified in an interview on Sunday, January 7, that the commission never labeled anyone as a ‘fake professor’ at any time. Subsequently, the NUC issued a statement refuting such reports. Nonetheless, several universities, encompassing both federal and state institutions, have responded to these claims.
- University of Ilorin (UNILORIN): The institution firmly denied the presence of any fake professors. Its spokesperson, Kunle Akogun, emphasized that the university maintains high standards and integrity, strictly adhering to best practices, and does not employ individuals under false pretenses.
- Covenant University: This Ogun state-based university also negated claims of housing four fake professors. Chichi Ononiwu, the university’s spokesperson, clarified that none of the names listed were associated with the university.
- University of Ibadan: Situated in Oyo state, this university dismissed the allegations as unfounded. Registrar and Secretary to the Council and Senate, Ganiyu Saliu, stated that the individuals named in the list were not part of their university community.
- Babcock University: Located in Ilisan Remo, Ogun state, the university’s management discredited the list of purported fake professors. Director of Communication and Marketing, Joshua Suleiman, labeled the information as misleading and incorrect.
- Redeemers University: This Osun state-based varsity also refuted claims of employing fake professors. Deputy Director of the Corporate Affairs Directorate, Adetunji Adeleye, affirmed that the alleged academics were never employed by the university.
Other universities that have issued denials regarding the employment of fake professors include the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the Federal University of Technology (FUTA), and Bayero University Kano (BUK).
