Adebayor Supports Osimhen’s Potential Success in the English Premier League

Emmanuel Adebayor, a former forward for Arsenal and Manchester City, has expressed confidence in Victor Osimhen’s potential to excel in the English Premier League, according to a report by PUNCH Sports Extra.

Osimhen, the Napoli striker and recipient of the African Footballer of The Year award in December, is highly regarded in the global football arena. Despite recently extending his contract with Napoli, the reigning Italian champions, until 2026, Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea continue to show keen interest in acquiring his services.

In a conversation with BBC Sport Africa, Adebayor, who formerly captained the Togo national team, praised Osimhen’s attitude, mentality, and determination. He expressed his hope for Osimhen to transition to the Premier League to demonstrate his abilities. Adebayor believes that Osimhen is poised to follow in the footsteps of legendary African strikers and make a significant impact in what he regards as the world’s toughest and best league.

Adebayor, who scored 97 goals in 241 Premier League appearances, reminisced about his time in the English top flight, which began with Arsenal in 2006 and included stints with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Crystal Palace. He reflected on a period when African players like Didier Drogba, Yakubu, and later Samuel Eto’o, made their mark in the Premier League.

Having retired in March of the previous year, Adebayor highlighted the cyclical nature of football, noting the constant emergence and departure of players.

Currently, Osimhen is representing Nigeria’s Super Eagles, with aspirations to secure a fourth Africa Cup of Nations title in Ivory Coast.
