64th Independence Anniversary: FG to empower Youths with 2,000 CNG tricycles

The Federal Government through the Ministry of Youth Development has said that it will provide 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles to young Nigerians to address issues of unemployment and transportation in the country. Distribution of the tricycles is scheduled to commence on October 1, 2024, as part of a new initiative starting during the nation’s 64th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

At a press briefing, the Minister of State for Youth Development, Mr Ayodele Olawale, gave a rundown of various benefits the project is intended to offer, which is claimed would reduce the cost of fuel greatly for tricycle operators and most of them are youths. “The distribution of the tricycles is part of the activities marking Nigeria’s 64th Independence Anniversary,” Olawale said.

The program promises a reduction in fueling expenses by riders by up to 80%, thereby helping riders cut operational costs to increase profitability and reduce transportation fares for passengers. The move is in fulfillment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment toward actualizing his campaign promises through the Presidential Initiative on CNG.

Olawale said, “The Federal Ministry of Youth Development is partnering with the Presidential Initiative on CNG and ACOMORAN to commence the Tricycle Empowerment Project. Before the end of the year, we are going to empower 2,000 CNG-powered tricycles with informal youth workers in the transportation sector, and this will kick-start next Tuesday, October 1st.

The move has been made as clear as possible, showing the government’s commitment to empowering the youths and enabling them to contribute toward economic growth through sustainable and affordable means of transportation as Nigeria celebrates its 64th Independence.
