Siphenkosi Nqoro, a 33-year-old from Qonce, has made his longtime wish of becoming a lawyer come true. He got his law degree from the University of Ford Hare in South Africa even though he faced big money problems.
Nqoro, who earned his Bachelor of Law at 29, told his story to Citizen. He said that his road to becoming a lawyer had many bumps because of money issues.
After finishing high school, Nqoro started working to help his parents. He worked long 12-hour shifts, four days each week, as a gas station attendant in his town. Even with this tough job, he put aside enough money to start at the University of Ford Hare the next year.
In 2015, Nqoro started his full-time position as a petrol attendant. The following year, he began to study for his LLB degree with a specific aim: to make his dream of becoming a lawyer come true. Juggling a full-time job with full-time studies proved tough. He worked night shifts before hurrying to attend 8 a.m. lectures at the university.
Nqoro kept his job while studying because his mom and dad didn’t have work, so he couldn’t stop earning money. He took the monthly food money NSFAS gave him and used it to help his family. Instead of buying food for himself, he got groceries for his parents and brothers and sisters at home.
Even though things were tough, Nqoro’s commitment and grit got results. He finished school and became a lawyer showing that being determined and working hard can help you get past even the biggest challenges.
