Renowned Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo recently celebrated a significant moment with his son, Clinton Mbaise, as he entered the filmmaking world. In a heartfelt gesture honoring African traditions, Kanayo embraced the practice of fatherly blessings by accepting Clinton’s first paycheck for his work on set.

Kanayo emphasized the importance of this cultural tradition, attributing it to the success of many individuals in the country. After completing his debut movie production alongside his father, Clinton received a payment of N50,000.

In a video shared on Kanayo’s Instagram account, he demonstrated the tradition by requesting N500 from Clinton’s salary and then offering heartfelt prayers for his son’s success in the film industry.

The veteran actor urged Nigerians to uphold the practice of presenting their first earnings to their fathers for blessings, rather than giving them to pastors. He emphasized that only a father holds the authority to bless his child.

Kanayo explained, “I want to honor a tradition passed down from our ancestors, known as ‘Father’s Blessing,’ which has propelled many individuals to success. Clinton, my son, has just completed his first production assignment with us and has earned his initial paycheck of N50,000 for a movie.

“As a gesture of this tradition, from the N50,000, Clinton, please give me N500. This symbolic act signifies a son acknowledging his earnings to his father, who then blesses him. The father may choose to manage the money or bless the son with it.”

He continued, “This practice teaches the son financial management skills. Seeking blessings from pastors with your earnings is not part of our cultural heritage and is futile.”
